Solid Sit-Downs: Rachel Brenner, Project Manager

An upstate New Yorker who has made the Pacific Northwest her home for the past 7 years, meet Rachel Brenner, a member of the Project Management team here at Solid Digital.

Rachel was born and raised in upstate NY, and after graduating from college she took an opportunity to move to Portland and begin a career in Project Management. Rachel has lived in Portland for over 7 years now and is glad to call the Pacific Northwest home. As a Digital Project Manager, she has worked on a variety of projects from print to web development and enjoys working on a range of projects to keep things interesting.

Q&A w/ Rachel Brenner

Q: What is your favorite quote?

Q: What inspired you to become a Project Manager

I knew that I wanted to work in some kind of creative space and was looking for a role which would allow me to support a variety of creators and project management was a great option.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being Project Manager at Solid Digital?

I enjoy the collaborative nature of working on the Solid Digital team. My role also does not feel restrictive, I have a primary role and focus but also feel invited to think strategically and participate in the creative process.

Q: As a Project Manager, What expertise do you bring to your clients?

After managing many projects I’ve learned that there are few projects which could be considered simple. I have worked on many different types of projects and am always learning from my experiences.

Q: What is your approach to providing great customer service?

Have honest communication often. It’s so important to communicate clearly.

Q: What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on during your time at Solid Digital?

So far it’s been the new website for St. Charles Trading. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of the strategy process and am excited by the potential the site has to really communicate what St. Charles Trading is all about.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I go see live music whenever possible, do some light hiking, have game nights with friends and I take a ceramics class at Portland Community College.

Q: What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

For a while, I volunteered at the IPRC (Independent Publishing Resource Center) but my passion project the past few years has been fixing up my home and doing any renovation work I can (with lots of help from my family).

Q: What is your favorite museum?

The MET in NYC. I went to college 30 miles north of NYC and going to the museum was a requirement for some classes. I enjoyed spending hours there when I could.

 Q: What is one of your favorite things about Solid Digital’s Culture?

My favorite thing is the focus around learning and improving. We have access to good learning tools and dedicated time throughout the month to collaborate on innovations and improvements throughout the month.

Canadian bacon, pineapple and jalapeño

Q: What’s your most-used mobile application and why?

Spotify, I’m always listening to podcasts or music.

Q: What are three things still left on your bucket list?

    1. Travel to Osaka to see a baseball game
    2. Become really good at throwing pottery
    3. Become a dog owner

Q: What is the 1 piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to have a career in your field?

Get an internship. It was how I got started and I found it invaluable.

Q: What would you like to be known for?

I’d like to be known for being funny and kind.
